Plein Air painting TIP
With plein air painting, I often see artists confused about what to focus on outdoors. Some truly don't know where to begin painting something in front of them. What plein air painting is about, is relating
your feelings about the scene, and not about copying nature.
I have seen artists walk around endlessly looking for subject.
A much more dramatic way to paint is to look for 'light'.
Subject is secondary for me. An ordinary object in a wondrous light becomes extraordinary !
And when you have excitement starting your painting, you can more easily carry that through to the finished piece, instead of deciding at the finishing what you can do to make the painting
more exciting.
Is your painting missing something but you can't put your finger on it ?
It probably wasn't there to begin with...
Go for the drama !
Sarasota County Area Transit, the local bus service known as SCAT, is introducing a trolley service that will run from downtown through St. Armands Circle and up through Longboat Key to Coquina Beach where riders can then get on an Anna Maria Trolley to go all the way to the North end of Anna Maria. The cost will be $.75 for the Sarasota-Coquina Beach portion; the Anna Maria trolley is free from Coquina Beach to Anna Maria.
SCAT trolley service will run continuously seven days a week from 5:30 AM until 11:00 PM. Two trolleys will operate in opposite directions at all times, with a trolley arriving at stops along the route approximately every 30 minutes. The ride from Coquina Beach to downtown should also take about 30 minutes.
The new trolley service will replace the existing bus service that currently runs on Longboat.
